Reach, roll, twirl and cartwheel your way to human wholeness

The foundation underlying complete freedom of the human body, is strength, flexibility, and body control, through all movement planes and spatial dimensions. Development of self awareness, task orientation and reflective skills are integral to this foundation.

An essential component to developing movement freedom, is variety. The human animal thrives when stimulated with new challenges and perspectives as we are instinctively geared towards curiosity and gaining information. It all comes down to neuroscience.

Using an embodied and somatic approach, Movement Arts offerings draw upon elements and tools from the following modalities and disciplines, and because they are underpinned by science and sound methodologies, fluid connections can be drawn between them to create diverse, exciting and rewarding movement programs.

  • Body control is about having control of motor skills, which is founded by strength, flexibility, balance and coordination, and how these are trained and applied in unison determines our quality of motor control, or simply, how well we move. The ability to move freely requires motor control. It also directly relates to the types of motor skills that can be acquired. Different bodies require varying degrees and types of motor control, depending on individual interests, goals or physical condition.

  • Core quadrupedal movements to simply and efficiently address: mobility in specific ranges of various joints; strength coordinated across different muscle groups; patterns of balance and proprioception coded into muscle memory.

    1. Prone high-hip walking patterns that trains shoulder strength, trunk stability, hamstring flexibility, and cross-body coordination.

    2. Forward and backwards squat-based movement that improves hip-mobility, squat depth, shoulder stability, and pulling strength.

    3. Lateral squat based movement for increased arm and core strength, hip strength and mobility, and dynamic coordination.

    4. Supine walking pattern for hip and core strength, cross-body coordination, and shoulder health.

Movement Arts Training is offered on demand by special arrangement. If you are interested in Solo Coaching sessions or Classes, Courses or Workshop events for groups, please get in touch

animal flow

move with elegance and precision

Animal Flow® is an artistic movement system that aims to improve physicality of the human animal, combining quadrupedal and ground based moves with elements from various training disciplines to create a fun, challenging, multi-planar movement practice.

Reconnecting to your body through movement training, Animal Flow® practice improves body awareness, while enjoying increased mobility, flexibility, stability, power, endurance, skill and neuromuscular communication. Animal Flow® includes a wide range of skills and movement combinations that are grouped into six components, each designed to elicit specific results.: 1. Wrist mobilisation 2. Activations 3. Form Specific Stretches 4. Travelling Forms 5. Switches and Transitions 6. Flow.

Gymnastics

Expand what you can do

Gymnastics is an exciting mechanism for improving physical literacy. Through exploration and sequencing of movements in multiple planes, gymnastics makes cognitive demands on movers at all life stages to: be attentive; act with intention; problem solve; make decisions; and prepare to take controlled risks. Fundamental gymnastics skills and forms promote all-round physical development, muscular strength, joint flexibility, balance, coordination and core strength required for everyday living. It also fosters psychological health including confidence and self agency. Gymnastics provides safe, artistic and empowering learning opportunities for everybody.

stretch therapy

Discover your body

Stretching releases muscular tension, prevents injury, assists in injury management, and allays common aches and pains associated with stress, age, sitting for extended periods, or strenuous exercise. The Stretch Therapy™ approach uses the muscles, ligaments and tendons as tools to literally remake what the brain believes is the end range of movement, facilitating significant improvements in the way you move and feel.

Stretch Therapy™ offers participants the opportunity to learn about their own patterns of tension, and how to change them. Feel looser, more relaxed and increase range of movement, to perform everyday functions with ease or even extraordinary movements with grace and efficiency. Stretch Therapy™ methods are safe, efficient and suitable to a full spectrum of movers of all ages, including athletes, sportspeople, dancers, fitness enthusiasts, and for people returning to movement or those entirely new to exercise.
